Emma Caulfield in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Anya Jenkins, portrayed by Emma Caulfield, has the best style of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer crew. Probably because she had a thousand years to perfect it. As I grow up, I relate to her character more and more. There's nothing like a child or a 20-something to complain about life being unfair and throwing social cues to the wind.

After her husband cheats on her, Anya does a spell to turn him into a troll. The vengeance demons throw out a job offer and she begins an immortal life of granting other women's revenge fantasies against their exes. She's condemned to humanity and mortality after failing at her job granting Cordelia's wish against Xander. Ironically, Anya eventually falls in love with Xander. Much of the show, she doesn't understand why he doesn't love her and why sex doesn't equal a perfect relationship. In the season 5 episode, 'The Body', Anya displays her ignorance toward human emotions. She tries to understand why Buffy's mom "can't just get back into her body". Once the Scooby Gang starts to see her annoying questions as a want to truly understand, she begins to become an accepted member. Something Anya hasn't had since her demon days.

The child-like wonder of Anya's character is shown in her wide eyes and her outfit's bright colors. Anya's style has many elements of 90's rave and club clothing, like her sequin butterfly-imaged, butterfly-cut top. She wears shirts with graphics. She prefers backless tops and dresses tied together with fabric straps and hip bone bearing tank tops with low cut pants or skirts. There's always an element of sex appeal. Neon colors are often found in the design rather than the overall fabric. She finds these shirts in browns, tans, blacks. Anya also has a penchant for wearing red. She leans toward the midi-cut in her skirts and pants, always showing a little ankle.

Anya wears long, funky earrings. She rocks a choppy short haircut, platforms, pale skin, and red lips. She's not the least bit afraid to talk about sex and nothing is taboo to her. We should all be more like Anya. Also, she has an irrational fear of bunnies, because, of course, she does.

Here's our musically vengeful look:

The three key pieces to this look are:

Butterfly Top. To attain this top, I entered the world of online thrifting. A magical resource and an addiction, if you aren't careful. If you're willing to flip through pages of clothing (racks) from the comfort of your bed, this is a thrifting option for you. Online shopping sites like Etsy, eBay, Poshmark, MyShopify, Rusty Zipper, and many many more, give you there's a world wide web of clothing, both handmade, vintage, and resales of known brands. It's like a worldwide clothing swap. It's good to learn keywords: for this, search: 'butterfly top'. Find the 'trendy' keywords like Mod, Goth, Boho, Club Kid, Rave, or 00s/90s/80s/70s/60s-> to find an instant, but a more expensive piece. Or type in something basic like 'crop top' and do it the old-fashion way. You'd think this would be a difficult top to find, but there are good amount still online waiting for your money.

Low Slung Skirt or Pants. These jeans were a Christmas gift from JCrew and I'm obsessed with them. They're probably on sale now...just saying. Jeans, like other basic necessities, are harder than it seems to find. If you think about all the specifics you need in jeans: ankle length, leg to hip ratio, waist cut, your size, color, shade, distress, I could go on but see what I mean? Sift through the mass of jeans and play dress up until you find the right cut. Sadly, it might not be in the same store. But, well-fitting jeans make a world of difference.

Long Dangle Earrings. My favorite thing in the world. I've been collecting earrings for a while now, in an attempt to find my own identity beyond the waitress uniform. I've found a goldmine of cheap amazing earrings on Shein and Romwe's online shops. Etsy, eBay, and Poshmark also have a great selection. There's always time to cruise the glass jewelry cases at every thrift and vintage shop.
